Marine Pumping System

Marine pump is named by its usage or application, it covers a lot of types of pumps, such as: Marine centrifugal pump is used to transport fluids by the conversion of rotational kinetic energy to the hydrodynamic energy of the fluid flow. The rotational energy typically comes from an engine or electric motor. These marine pumps can be serviced for cooling, circulating, ballast, general service(G/S), fire-fighting, boiler feed water, condensate water, fresh(drinking) water, sanitary water, bilge & sludge, F.O. transfer, L.O. transfer, F.O. and F.S. cargo pumping, cargo stripping, hydrophone tank unit, sewage treatment unit, oil water separator, incinerator, fresh water generator, and so on.

Ballast Pumps

Ballast Pump, also called ballast tank pump or ballast water pump, is a pump for transferring or discharging water ballast. Ballast pump is usually in a pump room on board the ships or vessels. Together with the tank, pipe, valves, it is composited of the ballast system.

Ballast Stripping Pumps

In most cases, ballast pumps will not be able to completely empty the ballast water tanks. In order to do this, a ballast stripping pump is required. This marine stripping pump should have good priming capabilities and low NPSHr.

Base Oil Pumps

Base oil is a thin oil used in the offshore industry to mix with drilling mud. The application is only used on offshore vessels like rigs and offshore supply vessels.

Bilge Pumps

A bilge pump is a water pump used to remove bilge water. A marine bilge water pump is used to make sure that these bilge wells are emptied regularly. And it ensures that the vessel stability is not compromised. The bilge water may contain contaminants such as oils, chemicals, particles and other materials. These have been transferred from other parts of the vessel. And therefore, the marine bilge water pump must be able to cope with a certain degree of particles.

Boiler Feed Pumps

A boiler feed pump feeds either fresh water or steam condensate into a steam boiler. As taking suction from a condensate system is a high-pressure application. Boiler feed water pump is generally high head, low flow pumps. Multistage pumps are therefore a common choice when a marine boiler feed water pump is required.

Brine Pumps

The brine is often filled with e.g. salt which allows the brine to be cooled down to below the normal freezing point of water. This high content of salt gives the brine a very high density.

Drill Water Pumps

Drill water pumps are only applied by the offshore industry. Drill water is used during the drilling of the oil well. The liquid can be both seawater as well as fresh water dependent on the rig arrangement.

Emergency Fire Pumps

It is a fixed emergency fire pump independently driven by self-cooled compression ignition engine or an electric motor which power is supply from emergency generator.

Fire Jockey Pumps

A jockey pump is a small pump connected to a fire sprinkler system to maintain pressure in the sprinkler pipes. This is to ensure that if a fire-sprinkler is activated, there will be a pressure drop, which will be sensed by the fire pumps automatic controller, which will cause the fire pump to start.

Fresh Water-Cooling Pumps

Marine cooling water pump are used for marine and offshore industry. A lot of equipment onboard a vessel or offshore platform generate heat. And the heat needs to be removed. A good way to do this is to cool it with water.

Fuel Oil Transfer/Service Pumps

Marine fuel oil pump is used for pump or booster fuel from one tank to another. Marine fuel oil transfer pump is used for fuel supply to fuel consumers.

General Service Pumps

General service pump, sometimes called marine GS pump, is usually a vertical centrifugal pump. In fact, it is just a general name for the marine ballast pump, bilge pump, fire pump and so on.

Inert Gas Cooling/ Scrubber Pumps

Scrubber systems are designed to protect the environment from chemical gases released in fumes. A fume scrubber pump is required to circulate neutralizing fluids such as caustic soda, which help to treat the fumes and ultimately reduce what is released into the atmosphere. Scrubber pumps are used in the scrubber system.

Lubrication Oil Pump

Marine lubrication oil or lubricant needs to be handled and changed on board the vessel or ship. And it is transferred from a tank to the different consumers. The marine lube oil pump takes care of this operation. It can be lube oil supply pump, transfer pump, circulation pump, booster pump, service pump and so on.

Main Engine Preheating Pumps

Main engine preheating pumps are only in operation when the main engine is not running. The purpose of this system is to keep a constant, high temperature in the main engine in order to avoid unnecessary heat and cold contractions and thus keep the engine ready to run at all times.

Seawater Cooling Pumps

A seawater cooling pump takes suction from the sea chest, pumps the seawater through the central fresh water coolers and then overboard. The system can be designed with two or three pumps. The pumps are crucial for the operation of the vessel and they are always running.

Sewage Pumps

Sewage Pumps are used to transfer sewage and dirty waste water to a treatment location on board ships or vessels. These marine sewage pump mainly deal with liquid like dirty and waste water. There are often solids present and therefore a sewage pump is required to handle these.

Sludge/ Dirty Oil Pumps

Sludge pump is used to make internal transfers and transfer to shore reception facility. Ship generated sludge are the residue from any oil separation process which is usually a mixture of water, solid material and high viscosity oil.
